Reversible mattress
There are a lot of different types of mattress from the various foams to the conventional springs. There are also different ways of manufacturing or assembling these mattresses.
The result of this is that there are reversible mattresses and none turn or no turn mattresses.
What is a reversible mattress?
Up to only a few years ago every mattress was a reversible mattress.
A reversible mattress is simply a mattress that can be turned over so that what was the underside becomes the topside.
With a reversible mattress there is no top or bottom and no right or wrong way of having the mattress on the bed frame or divan. Both sides of the mattress are suitable for sleeping on and both sides have top wadding and the same supportive construction.
With a reversible mattress it is both advisable and good for the longevity and comfort of the mattress to turn it over every few weeks. This practice will normally be recommended in the information or warranty that comes with the bed.
In terms of being an orthopedic bed, the turn or non turn requirement of a mattress is not usually significant. However, it is clear that most of the more expensive orthopedic beds and wellbeing mattresses currently on sale are not reversible.
How can you tell if your mattress is reversible or non turn
If your mattress is not reversible there will normally be a sticker on the mattress or bed packaging telling you so. Any warranty or guarantee should also point this out, as will any care guidelines supplied with the bed.
If your bed has a composite construction that has both springs and foams (e.g. memory foam), then it will be a no turn mattress.
If your bed has a mattress that is composed of different layers of foam, each with different densities or properties, then you mattress will be a no turn model.
